Combat Sports

Performance Starts With

Vision & The Brain

Fights are decided in fractions of a second. Reading an opponent's setup, recognizing the shot before it lands, reacting to a level change — every one of those moments begins with how the brain detects, processes, and responds.

Sensory performance is a critical component of how physical ability translates to success in the cage, the ring, and on the mat — especially when it is trained inside real movement, decision-making, and live coaching environments.

Senaptec delivers the most complete vision, cognitive, and sensorimotor assessment and training ecosystem built for performance environments — now tailored specifically for combat sports.

WHY SENSORY PERFORMANCE MATTERS IN COMBAT SPORTS

Sensory Skills Are Measurable,

Trainable, and Improvable

Combat sports are unpredictable and unforgiving. Athletes must scan, process, and adapt in real time — at range, in the pocket, and in scrambles — while fatigued and under threat.

Traditional training builds technical, physical, and tactical ability. Sensory performance training develops the systems that control how those abilities are applied under pressure.

WHAT

What the athletes see

The visual skills underneath every read — cue perception, peripheral awareness, and gaze control.

HOW

How they respond

Response capability — reaction speed, decision-making speed, and movement accuracy under pressure.

COMBAT-SPECIFIC BENEFITS

Train The Systems Behind The Skill

Senaptec Strobes improve reaction time, movement accuracy, and eye–hand coordination, while the Senaptec Sensory Station improves eye–hand coordination, peripheral vision awareness, decision-making, and the ability to switch focus between near and far — all of which are critical in combat sports.

Mixed Martial Arts

  • Reaction time for evading strikes, defending entries, and responding to sudden phase changes.
  • Go / no-go decision-making — committing or resetting when the read is only half there.
  • Identifying setups, feints, and level changes early.
  • Movement accuracy for footwork, distance management, and body control under fatigue.

Striking — Boxing & Muay Thai

  • Eye–hand coordination for counters, parries, and accurate return fire.
  • Peripheral vision awareness to pick up the hook and the low kick outside central vision.
  • Designed to train depth perception, for judging range and reading the shot as it leaves.
  • Reaction time in the pocket, where the read window is shortest.

Grappling — Wrestling, BJJ & Judo

  • Reading grips, posture, and shot setups before they commit.
  • Near–far focus switching between a close-range tie-up and the opponent's hips and feet.
  • Decision speed in scrambles, where positions change faster than they can be thought through.
  • Movement accuracy and body control through transitions and mat returns.

PEER - REVIEWED RESEARCH

IMPROVED PUNCHING ACCURACY

A treatment group of 13 female amateur boxers who trained with Strobes for six weeks significantly improved punching accuracy (% hit) relative to a matched control group of 13 who did not use Strobes during the same training.

INSIDE THE UFC PERFORMANCE INSTITUTE

“Smarter And More

Reactive Fighters”

“For martial artists, the ability to see and process information swiftly is crucial. The Senaptec Sensory Station allows our fighters to make split-second decisions and effectively evade attacks, significantly improving their reaction time and overall performance.”

The Strength and Conditioning staff at the UFC Performance Institute have integrated the Senaptec Sensory Station and Strobe eyewear into their fighters' programming — evaluating both what athletes see and how they respond, then training the visual processing that connects the two.

Rebecca Summers

Strength & Conditioning Manager, UFC Performance Institute

It Fits The Session

“For strength and conditioning coaches, the number one limiting factor is if this is functional and usable in a high pace environment. At the UFC Performance Institute, we have found that the Senaptec stations fit well in a warm-up or as a resting period between sets or as part of a circuit.”

It Mirrors The Fight

“Within competitions, there is a one-minute rest between rounds to recover… we implement Senaptec in a similar fashion to allow an athlete to recover but keep them engaged like they would in a fight.”

Athletes Buy In

“Fighters find it engaging and competitive and have noticed that their reaction time and ability to evade punches improved since incorporating it into the program. We even have a handful of fighters who do a full sports vision training session before they spar.”

HOW TO INTEGRATE INTO COMBAT SPORTS TRAINING

Three Places It Fits Today

Approaches used by the Strength & Conditioning staff at the UFC Performance Institute.

01 - WARM-UP

Activation Before The Session

Compete on the Sensory Station or wear Strobes during the warm-up to switch on the visual and cognitive system before skill work begins.

02 - BETWEEN ROUNDS

Rest Periods & Circuits

Slot short sensory blocks into rest between sets or into a circuit — recovery that keeps the athlete engaged the way a corner would between rounds.

03 - SKILL WORK

Strobes On The Mats

Layer Strobes into shadowboxing and mitt work. Progress tennis ball drills from drop-and-catch to wall rebounds, then to two colors — slip the red, catch the blue.
